Los Altos History Museum

Los Altos History Museum is a great place to learn about the local history of the area. It is located in one of the last apricot orchards in the area and it has a variety of exhibits that showcase how the community transformed an agricultural paradise into a high technology hub.

The museum also has a number of events that take place on a regular basis that are free to the public. These include the Los Altos Pet Parade and the Festival of Lights.

Founded in 2001, the Los Altos History Museum is located in an impressive three-level building that was built entirely with private donations. It features a changing exhibits gallery and the permanent "Crown of the Peninsula" exhibit that showcases the history of the Los Altos community.

There are also several Educational Programs that are offered at the Los Altos History Museum, including the Margaret Thompson Historical Essay Contest for 3rd-6th graders, a third and fourth grade history curriculum tour and a traveling Ohlone kit.

This small but very popular museum is located behind the main library and is open to the public. It has a wide array of exhibits that focus on the history of Los Altos and surrounding areas, with many of them being very interactive.

It has a great gift shop that sells books, postcards and other memorabilia related to Los Altos and the area. It is also a wonderful place for wedding ceremonies and receptions, luncheons or other social gatherings as it has beautiful oak-studded gardens that are perfect for these types of events.

The Smith House was built in 1905 by J. Gilbert Smith who planted his Blenheim apricot orchard on the property (which is still an active apricot orchard today). The House is now a museum and is one of the most popular historical sites in the area.

Another favorite of the museum is the Westwind Barn, which was originally purchased by Countess Margit Bessenyey in 1971 as a horse breeding farm and then gifted to the Town in 1975. She and her daughter Linda Hills later opened the Pacific Coast School of Horsemanship, which draws students from all over the world to learn how to train horses.

In addition to the museum, the town also has several other historical sites that are worth visiting. They include the Los Altos Land Company, which was founded in 1907 and was the site of the first town lot sale.

These sites are important to the local history of the area as they are places where people have lived, worked and played in the past. They also provide a place where visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature while learning about the local history.

The Museum is a fun place to learn about the history of the area and it is a great place to visit with your family or friends. It is located in one of the last remaining apricot orchards in Santa Clara Valley and it has a number of exhibits that showcase how the community transformed apricots into a high technology hub.
