Venice Beach

Venice Beach is an eclectic beachfront district in Lower West Side CA known for canals, funky artist colonies, contemporary restaurants, Abbot Kinney Boulevard's eclectic shops and galleries, and boutique hotels. It also has beaches and Ocean Front Walk, a two-and-a-half-mile pedestrian promenade that features performers, fortune-tellers, and vendors.

You can rent bikes to ride on the boardwalk or along the 22-mile paved Marvin Braude Coastal Bike Trail. Nearby, you'll find a skatepark and roller skating arena.

While you're there, check out Venice Art Walls -- concrete slabs and cones covered with graffiti and murals that pop with a cartoon-like intensity appealing to kids and teens. Other flamboyant street art can be found on the roll-up door fronts of boardwalk shops between 17th Avenue and Market Street and off Abbot Kinney and Lincoln boulevards.

There's also an array of destination restaurants that are worth checking out, including Jim Morrison's favorite hangout Hinano Cafe and organic vegan standby Cafe Gratitude.

Another excellent place for a bite is Gjusta, which has graced every Instagram feed and lifestyle blog on the internet. Their order-at-the-counter menu includes a range of breakfast specialties as well as rustic Californian mains and bowls.

In the center of Venice, you'll find a large public park called the Pavilion, which was built in 1961 to provide recreation and performing arts facilities for locals. It's also a hotbed of graffiti art thanks to its flat concrete walls and nearby beach, which make it an ideal location for artists to practice their craft.
